Congratulations to all of our JH and JV runners for a fantastic season! At Conference last week our JV Girls and JV Boys took 1st and 2nd respectively and our JH Girls and JH Boys both took 2nd in the JH All-Star meet in Chickasaw! It was a great way to end the season for those athletes. Our Varsity athletes will continue racing this week at the OSAA East Regional meet on Saturday.
ORXC is hosting the meet this year to avoid driving incredibly early to Ponca City and having to run on a sus course. Hosting lets us control the course and gives our runners a little extra sleep but we NEED HELP! We can only pull off hosting if we have help from our JV, JH, and Varsity parents. As of now we only have about twenty percent of the volunteers we need. Please sign up for a two hour shift to support the program and get to watch some of the best XC athletes in the state compete. For our JH runners not racing at the JH All-Star meet, they will take some time off and then start back to off-season workouts on November 27th. We’ll have our JH athletes come to practice on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:15 to 4:30 during the winter off-season. These are optional workouts for anyone not participating in another sport. We want to keep them running and training so they don’t lose the fitness they’ve gained this season and be more prepared for Track starting in February. I’ll send out more details regarding off-season JH workouts after the HS XC season concludes. We’ll also send out information soon regarding an end of the season party for our JH runners.
A reminder too for our Varsity athletes competing at Regionals and State and their families just how important sleep, nutrition, and consistency are at the end of the season. Several of them are tired from a long season of running and racing. A multivitamin, iron supplements, and an extra hour of sleep every night can go an incredibly long way towards making them feel their best for our Championship season.
We are ALWAYS in need of snacks for our runners! The sooner they get calories after their workout the quicker they can start to recover for the next day’s workout. We purchase whole chocolate milk as a recovery drink with the Booster Club fee but if you’re at Sam’s or Costco and can grab some extra granola bars, fruit snacks, or crackers we could definitely use them. Kelly Mangelson was kind enough to make a snack sign up if you’d like to help out…
