Owasso Track Distance Squad Week Twenty Schedule – 4/29/24 – 5/4/24

What a great week of racing last week!  We started off great with a new boys freshman 4×800 record with Adan Rossini, Nos Graham, Chiles Stover, and Brody Murdock winning Conference going away.  The girls led by Audrey Toews, Madison Friday, Bijoux Millien, and Yaretzy Aguilar also won the 4×800 nearly matching their own school record from earlier this year!  Later in the day, Adan finished 2nd in the 800, Chiles finished 3rd in the 400, Audrey won the 800, and the boys 4×400 finished off the day with a win over BA!

On Thursday at Varsity Conference we had more fantastic racing from our younger runners in the 4×800 and wins in the open from both Bella Nelson and Isaac Krueger.  Sarah Swofford ran a huge PR in the mile as did Sam Hays and Gabe Baughman.  We finished the night off with an awesome race from our girls 4×400 with an unbelievable 56 second split from Bella and the 3rd fastest time in the state!

This week is Regionals!  We are down to the last two meets of the season.  Regionals will be hosted at Holland Hall.  I have the schedule and roster listed below.  In order to qualify for State runners must finish in the top 3 of their event at Regionals or post one of the four fastest times from all Regionals for an at-large spot.  It’s a looooooong day to say the least.  We’ll have several athletes competing in multiple events throughout the day.  They’ll need extra rest, hydration, and nutrition this week to be at their best here at the end.  Please encourage your runners to do everything they can at home to be ready to compete on Saturday!  As a terrific side bonus, Regionals falls on one of the best days of the year…Star Wars day!  Most of our runners will be dressed in Star Wars costumes and we encourage our parents to do the same!  Please reach out to Coach Graddy and Coach Clark if you need any help getting something put together.

Our JV runners will finish out the training cycle and culminate their season with our annual Mile Day next week.  We’ll pick the best weather day and have our Varsity athletes help pace our JV runners to their best mile time of the season.  It’s always a lot of fun and parents are welcome to come watch.

Striders Camp is open!   Summer training is CRUCIAL to a successful XC season and training together with teammates helps create the kind of culture we seek in the fall.  Since we started the Striders program twelve years ago, our XC program has grown in leaps and bounds.  It’s not the only reason but Striders certainly plays a huge role in that success.  The website is www.owassostriders.com.  We’ll have our annual parent meeting on May 7th at 7:00 pm at the Owasso 8th Grade Center Media Center.  Please try to be there as we’ll answer a lot of questions that night.

We are almost ready for our first ORXC Gear Store to open up.  We are going to change it up a little to this year to hopefully ease some of craziness we have every fall.  Gear will only be ordered upon payment.  We’ll have three opportunities to purchase before the season starts.  In order to guarantee gear arrival before the season athletes will need to order now.  We’ll have a second store during the summer which should be enough time for gear to arrive before the season.  We’ll have a third and final store at the start of the XC season in August.  Those runners should get their gear sometime in mid-September.  As soon as we have it all together I will get it posted.

We have our annual end-of-the-season banquet coming up in a few weeks.  The ever-vigilant Kelly Mangelson has put together an RSVP link and another link for volunteers.  Here are those…

Lastly, we have Physical Night for the 2024-2025 seasons coming up on May 6th.  The cost is $25 and will be held on campus.  The funds from Physical Night go directly to our athletic training rooms for things like tape, recovery equipment, and Gatorade bottles.  The more money raised on Physical Night the more access our runners will have to the best treatment available.  Plus, it means you don’t have to worry about uploading a physical to Rankone later this summer.  It all stays in-house.

Thank you for everything you do and as always…GO RAMS!  –  Coach Collins
