Owasso Track Distance Squad Week Six Schedule – 1/22/24 – 1/27/24

Another weird schedule last week with extra days off, snow, distance learning, and freezing temps…looks like one more day of potential weirdness then hopefully we can get some consistency back.  We’ll plan on HS and JH practice at normal times tomorrow afternoon.  If it’s really bad and we need to cancel JH practice I will let you know via Remind and SportsYou plus send a message to the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Centers.  Unfortunately, there is nowhere for the JH kids to practice in bad weather as baseball will be in the Indoor at 3:15.  

Don’t forget JH tryouts are scheduled for February 12th and 13th.  We will have a pre-season Parent meeting for Track for HS and JH kids making the team on February 20th.  I attached a separate document with the tryout information. 

We are working to transition away from the Remind App due to the issues we had in Cross Country.  I will continue to post on Remind for a few more weeks but please sign-up for the SportsYou app for updates for Track this season and XC next season.  I attached a separate document with the SportsYou information as well.  

Lastly, we will not be taking any HS distance runners to OU on the 27th.  Spots for the meet were very limited so we are going to look at February 10th as a possibility for runners who want to get a race in.  We spoke to those runners Friday and need to get them entered this week if they want to race.

JH Track Try-Outs 

When: February 12th, 13th and 14th (See below)

Where: Owasso 8th gd Gym. We will walk up to the HS Track

Time: 2:45-5:00

Pick-up is at the 8th-grade center at 5pm. 

Must have shoes that tie (example: Tennis shoes)

6th & 7th Graders: Your tryout date is Monday, Feb 12th.

  • 6th Grade: You will ride bus #42 from the 6th gd to HS, and Walk over to the 8th gd Gym. 
  • 7th Grade: You will ride Bus #2 to the 8th gd.Gym.
  •  8th Graders: Your tryout date is Tuesday, Feb. 13th. Come to the 8th gd Gym. 

Makeup date is Wednesday, Feb. 14th. You will need to come to the 8th gd Gym. This will be the ONLY makeup date for anyone who wasn’t able to make it on your try-out day. 

Before any athlete can participate in Tryouts, they must complete the following, be passing all classes, and Upload their physical to Rank One. Before Feb. 12th. *Only Students w/Owasso School email will be able to fill out the Google Form.

Sports You App

We had several issues in Cross Country with the Remind App limiting the number of messages we could send each week.  As a result, we are moving away from Remind and going to a new app called Sports You.  This is the app Coach Parker will be sending out information this track season on Sports You.  I will continue to send out Reminds for a few weeks but will eventually post everything on the new app as well.  Here is the information to get signed up…

Owasso Track Distance Squad Week Five Schedule – 1/015/24 – 1/20/24

The distance coaches were fortunate to attend the Boulder Running Camps this weekend in Colorado.  They scheduled a run yesterday morning for the attending coaches and I knew I had to do it.  I mean, it’s Boulder!  It’s the mountains!  It’s a must, right?   It snowed three inches Friday night and the temperature Saturday morning was -10 with a windchill of -20 so I wasn’t sure how many would show up.  By the start of the run at 7:00 there were 50 coaches bundled up and ready to go!  They said, in all the years of the clinic It was the most they ever had!  I think there is something about going out and running when everyone else thinks you’re crazy that makes the run that much more enjoyable.  Don’t get me wrong, it was FREEZING but we all had a blast!  The weather this week here in Owasso looks less than inviting but we’ll continue to work regardless.  The runners will need to bundle up but these can be some of the best workouts of the year…at least the ones they remember the most.

This is the last week of our kind of weird back-to-school schedule.  There will be no HS or JH practice tomorrow and no JH practice on Tuesday because of the home basketball games.  I think by next week we are truly back to a normal schedule.

In Boulder, we had the opportunity to speak with a Garmin rep about what they offer for HS programs.  We have several athletes with Garmin watches already but we are fortunate to offer a steep discount for the next few weeks for runners who are looking to get a watch.  I’ll send out more information for this program as well, but it’s a way for all of our runners to sync up with workouts and for coaches to better monitor their effort, mileage, and sleep schedule.  Looks like it could be a fantastic training tool for our program!

Owasso Track Distance Squad Week Four Schedule – 1/08/24 – 1/13/24

Finally back to a normal week!  Sort of.  The weather looks kinda terrible but the schedule is normal.  We’ll start back with our JH kids tomorrow.  Tryouts for Spring Track will be mid-February so we’ll keep up with off-season workouts until then.  Outdoor Track meets will start in March.  Our HS kids will start back with required Saturday practices when we get a little closer but for now, those workouts will be here and there depending on the workout cycle.

We had a solid meet yesterday at Pitt State.  Several of our runners were able to get in some good races with several placing high in the standings and running near PR times.  Congratulations to Isaac Krueger, Evan Carter, and Bella Nelson for winning their heats.  Krueger in the Mile, Carter in the 800, and Bella in the Mile and 800. Bella also set a meet record in her Mile win running a 5:00!  We’ll have another meet later this month at OU in Norman for some of the runners who didn’t go yesterday.  The information for that meet will come out in another week or so.  

We have our December Booster Club meeting Thursday night at 5:45 in the Fieldhouse for anyone who would like to attend.

Owasso Track Distance Squad Christmas Break Schedule – 12/18/23 – 1/3/24

We will have several days over the Christmas Break for athletes to come to the track and workout.  If runners are in town we strongly encourage them to come to practice.  If runners are traveling they will be given workouts to follow as much as possible.  If they miss a day here or there it isn’t a big deal but if they take two full weeks off that will set them back.  JH runners are welcome to come run with the HS team for their practices.  We will have modified workouts for them.

Owasso Track Distance Squad Week Three Schedule – 12/11/23 – 12/16/23

Another normal ol’ off-season this week for our distance kids.  Fortunately, we still have nice weather so we’ll get some good workouts in and have fun between racing seasons.  We will NOT have JH practice again on Tuesday because of home basketball games.  Those JH runners will also be off on Monday and Tuesday next week due to block scheduling at the HS but they are more than welcome to come to practice with the older runners over Christmas Break.  I will send that schedule out this week.  Our HS meet schedule is also nearly complete.  We are deciding between a couple of early meets then we’ll send that out as well.  

We have our December Booster Club meeting tomorrow night at 5:45 in the Fieldhouse for anyone who would like to attend.

This time of year there isn’t much happening but as crazy as things get in the season we are thankful for these ‘normal’ days.  We’re still dealing with teenagers so maybe ‘normal’ isn’t the proper term but you know what I mean.

Not much new is happening this week.  We’ll continue to work our HS kids back into full training and our JH kids moving.  Our high school weight room days are moving to Tuesday and Wednesday moving forward.  The only change from last week is there will be NO JH practice on Tuesday.  Coach Parker and I will be working home basketball games and we have HS tryouts.  It was great to see so many JH kids out last week.  That’s a great looking group of kids that are going to be very good down the road.  I’m excited to have them!

Our Track meet schedule will be coming out soon.  We will have a couple of indoor meets in January and February for our HS runners then outdoor kicks off in March for everyone.  We will have some practice days over Christmas Break.  As always, if runners are in town they need to come run, if not then no worries.  We’ll have those dates for everyone soon as well.

Owasso Track Distance Squad Week One Schedule

We hope everyone enjoyed some time off and had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  

Thank you to everyone who helped out at our annual Hog Jog last week!  We had over 600 runners making this year’s race one of the largest we’ve ever had.  It was a fun time with a ton of families, alumni, and current HS and JH runners enjoying some terrific weather AND it was a great fundraiser for the program!  

We’ll start easing our HS runners back into workouts this week before getting back to full workouts next week.  We’ll also start back with our JH Off-Season workouts tomorrow.  If those runners aren’t playing another sport, they can come over and get in a workout on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15 – 4:30.  8GC athletes will walk up to the Fieldhouse, 6GC and 7GC runners will ride the same bus over as they did in the XC season.  I will confirm those buses again tomorrow with Transportation and then send out a Remind in the morning with exactly which buses the kids need to ride.  These are optional workouts.  The intent is to keep them moving in the winter months in preparation for the Track season in the Spring.  If we have bad weather I will send out a Remind and let the schools know.  Also, if for some reason there is an issue starting tomorrow with transportation, I will let everyone know that as well.

ORXC Week Seventeen Schedule

Congratulations to our girls Varsity and Rising Stars groups for their excellent performances at NXR yesterday!  NXR puts the top schools from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi all together.  Our Rising Stars (Freshman and Sophomores) took 3rd overall in their race and the Varsity squad ended up with a 10th place finish in the Championship race!  That means the ladies ranked in the top 10 out of all those states.  Pretty impressive and a great way to end the season!

We won’t have any organized practice this week.  Runners need to take the week off and enjoy some time away.  If anyone wants to participate in the Hog Jog on Thursday we’d love to have them but it needs to be for fun and not trying to break a school record.  Here’s the link…
