ORXC Week Nine Schedule

Great week last week at BTW and Rim Rock…sort of!  BTW went really well with our JV and JH kids all placing in the top 2 for each race.  Rim Rock was a little crazy with storms and lightning delays but we still had some excellent performances.  Our Varsity Boys finished 12th out of 39 teams and our Varsity Girls claimed 3rd out of 37 teams.  Our JV Rim Rock runners also excelled on a muddy, difficult course.  It was a long weekend but our kids really stepped up and ran well in spite of the circumstances.

This week is our next home meet, the Owasso Invitational.  The meet will start at 4:00 on Thursday at O’Brien Park in Tulsa. We need volunteers to help out with parking, medals, water, and the concession stand.  This is the second of three meets ORXC will host this season.  We had great help with the Relays!  We love for our parents to be involved in the program.  Please consider coming out to help the team and support your athletes.  Kelly Mangelson from our Booster Club Board has set up a Sign-Up Genius for the meet…

We’ll be taking our top 8 girls and boys to another huge race on Saturday in Fayetteville, AR for the Chile Pepper XC Festival.  Any HS runners who want to come to watch the Varsity compete are more than welcome.  We’d love to have a great group of athletes there to show their support and see some of the best teams in the region compete.

We are ALWAYS in need of snacks for our runners!  The sooner they get calories after their workout the quicker they can start to recover for the next day’s workout.  We purchase whole chocolate milk as a recovery drink with the Booster Club fee but if you’re at Sam’s or Costco and can grab some extra granola bars, fruit snacks, or crackers we could definitely use them.  Kelly Mangelson, the previously mentioned superstar, was kind enough to make a snack sign-up if you’d like to help out…

We’re all really excited about these next few weeks!  Please help your athletes by reminding them of the importance of sleep, hydration, and nutrition then come out to watch your athletes in action!

ORXC Week Eight Schedule

Congratulations to our ORXC JH runners for an excellent meet last Friday at Choctaw!  Our boys’ 7th and 8th-grade teams both finished 2nd and our girls’ 7th and 8th-grade teams both won the meet!  Fantastic running from all those athletes!

Our JH runners will race at the Bishop Kelley Invitational on Tuesday.  Coach Graham will send out the information for that meet.  Our HS runners have our first big meet of the season this Friday and Saturday in Lawrence, KS at the Rim Rock Classic.  Runners not attending Rim Rock will race at the BTW Invitational on Thursday back at O’Brien Park.  The schedule for BTW is listed below.  The schedule for Rim Rock was sent out last week and will be sent again today in a separate text.

We are looking forward to hosting our annual Owasso Invitational on Thursday, September 28th at O’Brien Park.

BTW has also asked us to bring out our concession stand to the meet this week.  We need a few parents to help out here too.  This is an easy fundraiser.  We’ll only be selling chips and drinks.  Kelly Mangelson again, she’s a superstar, has set up a volunteer list for this volunteer opportunity…

Finally, another Booster Club superstar, Jeff Miles, has been hard at work creating a website for ORXC and Owasso Track.  The site can be found at www.owassotfxc.com.  We want to start utilizing the website more and more as a central hub for information regarding the program.  From here on out we’ll be posting results, pics, and weekly schedules on the website.  Please go check it out.

ORXC Week Seven Schedule

Clean Sweep!  All FOUR ORXC divisions came away with a win last week at the Camp Gruber Invitational!  We took our HS runners to Camp Gruber for the course more than anything.  The hills there on the base were a great primer for Rim Rock coming up next week.  For our JH kids though, it was fantastic to see them get a win in both the girls and boys divisions in their first meet of the year and on what will more than likely be the toughest course they run on all year.  It was a great day to be a Ram for sure!

Our HS runners will have the week off from competition.  Our JH runners will head to Choctaw on Friday for their second meet of the season.  I’ll let Coach Graham share the details for that meet when she’s ready.  Usually, we wear cut-off jean shorts and tank tops to fit in when we run at Choctaw but that will be up to Coach Graham as well.

The HS coaches are working on getting the roster together for Rim Rock.  We will be taking our top 40 runners to Kansas for our first big meet of the season on the 22nd.  I will send out a detailed itinerary next Sunday for that meet.   Any runner not going to Rim Rock will compete at the BTW on Thursday of next week.

Kelly Mangelson from our Booster Club was kind enough to make a snack sign up if you’d like to help out…

Lastly, we’ll have our monthly Booster Club meeting on Tuesday night from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at the Track/XC Fieldhouse.  Everyone is welcome to come!

Thank you for all you do! As always…GO RAMS!  –  Coach Collins
